What an e-bike tour asks of you, and what it does not.
You do not need to be fit. You do need to be able to ride a bike. The motor only helps while you pedal, so balance, braking and a bit of confidence in traffic still matter. Check these before you pay.
- Can you ride a bike?
- Every guided e-bike tour assumes you can. An e-bike weighs 20 to 28 kg, more than a regular bike when you stop or push it.
- Age and height
- Most operators set a minimum age of 12 to 16 and a minimum height near 150 cm. Under that, look for a family tour or a child seat.
- Weight limit
- Many e-bikes are rated to about 110 to 120 kg for the rider. Check the listing if you are close to it.
- Rain and helmets
- Tours usually run in light rain and cancel in storms. Helmets are provided and are compulsory in some countries.
The easiest place to start: a small group or a private guide.
Spain and Portugal on an e-bike: seven hills, the Alhambra and a lot of tapas.
Lisbon and Porto are two of the steepest cities in Europe, which is exactly why e-bikes caught on there. Spain adds Barcelona’s beach front, the Albaicín across from the Alhambra, and tapas stops in Seville.
Every e-bike tour in Spain →What an e-bike tour costs, from a rental to a day in the vineyards.
Every e-bike tour on the site, grouped by price. Plenty of good city rides come in under the price of dinner.
Rentals, two-hour city loops and the classic three-hour rides in Lisbon, Barcelona and Seville.
Three e-bike rides that would be hard work on a regular bike.
Old cobbles, volcanic slopes and a city after dark: the places where a motor turns a struggle into a good day out.

The Appian Way
The Via Appia Antica runs south from the city walls on its original basalt paving, lined with tombs and umbrella pines, past the entrances to the catacombs and out to the Park of the Aqueducts. The stones are big and uneven, and the road climbs gently the whole way out. An e-bike makes the full loop possible in an afternoon.

National Parks
Fat tyres and a motor open up park roads and gravel tracks that are too long for most people to ride unassisted. Volcanoes on Hawaii’s Big Island, the canyons of the American Southwest and the coastal parks of Europe all have guided e-bike tours. Start early in hot months, when the trails are quiet.

Sunset and Night Rides
Cities empty out after dark and the monuments light up. Evening e-bike tours in Rome, Athens and Paris cover the main sights in two or three hours, often with a stop for food or a drink. Bikes come with lights, and the routes avoid the busiest roads.
